R6400 DHCP not reassigning reserved IP after device reset
I was convinced that the router's address reservation process would ensure that every time the device is connected to the LAN, the router DHCP server would reassign the IP given in the reservation table.
Apparently, this is not happening for my Reolink camera after I performed a reset. DHCP assigned a random IP, ignoring the address given in the reservation table.
Is this a malfunction or am I missing something?
Michael. Thanks for the reply,
I should have been more explicit:
... my Reolink camera after I performed a reset [on the camera]..
Regarding the MAC address, I was under the impression this was really a hardware property. If they start changing it, it will become confusing. But yes, I checked it was still the same address.
On your last point, I am trying to avoid assigning directly a static address to the camera, so as to be sure that whenever anything happens to the camera (update, reset...) the router DHCP will reassign the desired IP to it.
RESOLVED: Now, after a number of hours, it looks like the router has finally done its job, and I see that the IP address is finally the desired one. So the reservation apparently works, but it has taken hours in this specific case.

Reset what? Do that to the router and it will erase any settings you made.
Does the camera always use the same MAC address? Some new devices have a habit of changing this for security reasons.
Can you fix the IP address on the camera itself? Many people prefer this as a way of pinning down a device.

Sadly, that is no longer true. Apple and Microsoft have both added variable Mac addresses to their repertoires of security features.
Here's some local advice for Apple customers:
