RBR50 started assigning 192.168.10.x instead of 192.168.0.x to Apple devices

I have been using a Netgear Orbi RBR50 for many years, and it's worked well.  I've configured my internal network (wired and wifi) to assign addresses of 192.168.0.x (third digit zero), with many address reservations set up.

In the past week or so, the DHCP server has been sending IP addresses of 192.168.10.x (with router IP 192.168.10.1), i.e. third digit ten, to some of my wifi Apple devices.  ONLY to Apple devices!  Needless to say, those devices don't work on wifi when this happens.  It has this problem even if I set up an address reservation linked to the Apple device MAC address.  The only way I can get the affected Apple devices to work is to manually configure my wifi IP address and put in both the correct 192.168.0.x IP and the 192.168.0.1 router IP.

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening and how I might go about fixing it, other than being forced to manually configure IP & router on my Apple devices?

Thanks,

John Feinberg

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

I forgot to post the firmware version!  It is V2.7.4.24, same for the RBR50 and the two RBS50 satellites.  It's connected directly to a Verizon FIOS Alcatel ONT I-211M-L.  The NetGear Orbi handles DHCP assignments - it plugs directly into the ONT.  I.e. I'm not using any Verizon routers, only the ONT.

I can try your reset sequence later tonight.  I'll get in a lot of trouble if I take the network down during the day!  🙂

I had gone to the Advanced -> Administration -> Firmware Update section of the admin module.  It says that there is no new firmware version available.  I didn't realize there was a newer firmware version available for manual installation!  I'll definitely consider giving it a try.

Sometimes new FW doesn't get put up on the AU servers. Minor updates mostly. Major ones seem to get put up when those happen.

Do these DHCP assignments to Apple devices show up in the Orbi Log File?

Did anything happen "about a week ago?"

  • Was there an iOS software update?
  • Any new devices connected?

This sound suspiciously like there is another DHCP server on the network.
