Rbr50 and two satellites

Whenever I try to see if there are any firmware updates I get an error message instead of the message stating your firmware is up to date. Any suggestions as to why I keep getting the error message. I think I am up to date but am not sure now.

Re: Rbr50 and two satellites

what modem/gateway do you have?

What actual firmware version are you on?

You can view/download the latest firmware on the support site.

https://www.netgear.com/support/product/RBR50

the manual walks you through manually updating as well. If you go this route, do the satellites first.

Re: Rbr50 and two satellites

The router firmware is v2.7.2.104
I am not sure what you mean about modem/ gateway but we use point broadband as our internet provider as we stream our television viewing. One of the satellites is the Rbs 40v Orbi voice. I am not sure if that would cause the error message all the time.

Re: Rbr50 and two satellites

You are up to date (as of today) but it might not be connecting to the server properly if  you have a double nat issue.

It why i was curious about your modem/gateway

Re: Rbr50 and two satellites

Its tough to help with minimal info. You wouldn't expect your mechnic to fix your car with only the info of "its a ford car" and when the machanic asks what motor is in is is told "its a motor just tell me whats wrong".
It doesn't work like that. There isn't a simple "fix it" button that corrects all problems.

   "try" _how_, exactly?

> [...] I get an error message [...]

What, exactly, does this "error message" say?  Or is it a secret?

> Any suggestions as to why I keep getting the error message.

Without seeing "the error message"?  No.

None of that is a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

To what is the WAN/Internet port on the Orbi connected?

> [...] I would just like to know how to fix my problems.

Try a psychic hotline?  Provide even a little useful information?

Re: Rbr50 and two satellites

I open the Orbi Netgear application. I go to settings. Open router settings. Click on check for firmware updates. Picture of Orbi Router showing Checking for new firmware. After about 2-3 minutes I get a message, Firmware Check Error. There was a problem checking firmware update. I can than either hit try again or skip which takes me back to setting screen of application.

I apologize for not being a tech guru but I think your comments are a bit harsh. I will try to provide more information.

Re: Rbr50 and two satellites

Please look at the box/device the router is connected to on the wan port. This should be your gateway.

It should have a model number

Re: Rbr50 and two satellites

We have point broadband as our internet provider. They are fiber optic cable. The cable is run from a buried pedestal to a box on the outside of our condo. The cable is run up outside of the condo and enters through our second floor attic. It is then run through the attic, through the attic wall into a box with a door on the wall inside the hall of the bedroom on the second floor. That Ethernet cable is run directly into my Orbi Router housed right by the box. The other two satellites are on the first floor of our condo.

Re: Rbr50 and two satellites

I am sorry to bother the community but I continue to have the same problem. When I open my Orbi application and go to settings, I hit check for firmware updates and the picture shows an Orbi router scanning for firmware. This goes on for a couple of minutes and I receive the message that there was an error trying to locate new firmware and it asks me to skip or try again. This has been going on for several weeks now and I would appreciate some help from someone he had a bit of compassion for a person like me who is not very good with internet, router, and WiFi issues.

Thank you

Re: Rbr50 and two satellites

I have the same problem.

My RBR850 and satellites did an update using the web page "Firmware update" once to get to 3.2.17.12

Every week or so, I would "check for new updates" and be advised that no new firmware is available, however checking https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rbk853.aspx#download I found V3.2.18.1_1.4.14.  I downloaded both versions (router and satellite) and did a manual update.

Re: Rbr50 and two satellites

When I try to see if there is a firmware update after about 2-3 minutes it says encountered firmware error. Try again or skip. It always used to say no firmware found or new firmware is available. Not sure how to handle this problem.
