Slow wifi vs fast ethernet
Hello everybody, I am kind of a newbie, so I need some help in what to do. I just upgraded my interent and it is 200 mbps down and 10 mbps up (I know thats not the fastest, but hey it matters). I hav...

Suspect this is taken out of some context - a real N600 5 GHz client does certainly make more than 200 mb/s on the router model in question.

The never ending dream of the wireless industry standard marketing lies. Should you have two absolute top of the line 802.11n 4x4 WiFi clients, one operating on 2.4 GHz on 20 MHz bandwidth and one on 5 GHz and 40 MHz bandwidth .... N600 plus almost N300 (N288.8) you might have a maximum combined PHY link rate "N900". These clients virtually don't exist, even today the average and better wireless clients are 2x2, low cost 1x1. And be aware these numbers are ideal PHY link rates, effective speed is less than 70% due to protocol overhead.

Probably not much - because of client limitations most likely. Once upon a time about 10 years ago, this was a top of the line WiFi 4 (802.11n) router. Today we're two major generations ahead.

Make sure your passwords for the wifi algorythym is set to WPA2-AES. Over wireless you'll never get 200 mbps down. There's no wifi router that will give you those speeds, but wired will. To test your fastest speed wirelessly use the 5Ghz band and do a speed test but do it with your device close to the router to see what your peak wifi speed will be. 5ghz use it in shorter distances and 2.4 ghz in longer distance from the router.

- Your definitely right! Sorry for my ignorance, I did testing near my router and was getting 150 mbps down, even the wifi in my room was also! When I go downstairs, the test speed was like 90 mbps, although it changes depending on the room. It all makes sense! Especially since my router is in the corner of a room upstairs. Looks like I have to move it or get an 802.11 AC.

We're happy you picked-up the essentials what is going on on a wireless, like clients which are always part of the equation, as well as distance plus the building structure which does lead to diferent PHY/link rates.
