Upgrade WNDR3700 — N600?
I've been running a functioning WNDR3700 for what seems forever.
It had been mistly problem free since installed oly requiring rare reboot to bring wifi speeds back up.
Generally the laptop is testing 160 Mbps or so on download speed on wifi.
Will I see a significant performance increase if I upgrade to a newer model and is it worthwhile?

Maybe that's as fast as the laptop will go.

That's your call. I'd be more worried about security than speed. There won't have been any firmware updates on that front fir some time for a device first released in 2009.
At least you aren't stuck with a device with Ethernet ports limited to 100BASE-Tx.
Just another user with a set of boilerplate macros.

Re: Upgrade WNDR3700 — N600?
Regarding the laptop, it's AC adapter is spec'd at Bands 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, Max Speed 300/867 Mbps.
The router is an N rated at 300 Mbps + 300 Mbps .
So would an AC router perhaps take advantage of the higher rating of the adapter?
Also, the current cell phones could take advantage of an AC router.
The router securty has been tested recently and nothing was flagged as an issue.
