My ISP just replied. Apparently, they configured the routers to be unusable after a factory reset, citing security concerns. They are going to send me a new router which should fix it, hopefully it will arrive soon.

Ouch. That's a brand new one on me.
The good news is that they should provide you with something newer than your decade old WNR2000v5.
According to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN ports support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. That makes it slower than many newer internet services and most modern network hardware.
Most newer routers are 1000BASE-TX. If the Internet connection is up to it you might get better speeds.
