Windows 10 not recognizing ReadyNAS RND2000 v1

I have a ReadyNAS Duo RND2000 v1  (it says v2 on the label but it really is a v1 limited to 2TB drives).  About a month ago, the NAS wouldn't reconnect at log in although Network in Explorer could see it.   I disconnected the shares from the mapped drive and remapped using the short name (NAS1).   Then, after a few days, Explorer wouldn't recognize NAS1, so I disconnected the shares and remapped using the url (192.168.1.4).   After a few days that didn't work but NAS1 had reappeared so I remapped again.  Today nothing worked until I unplugged the NAS cable, restarted the computer, reattached the cable to the router, opened RAIDR, made certain the shares were present (all ok and system was fine), disconnected the network drives, remapped four times and voila the shares suddenly reappeared.   I have no issues with my other NAS devices -- WD and Synology -- so the problem is the limitation in the system for the NAS (requiring SMB1 etc).

1)   Is there any likelihood that Netgear will fix this issue?

2)  If not, is there a relatively cheap Netgear NAS units (2 bay) that will connect to Windows 10 where I can simply take the discs out of the one I have and insert them in the new unit?
