Latest Firmware update on a Netgear D6400

Does the latest firmware update contain all the previous updates or do you have to start with the oldest and sequencially work forward and install each one?  I have never done a modem firmware update before.  I didn't want to chance messing up my modem being inexperienced in working with modems.  But I received an email from Netgear that said the latest update is important to install for security reasons.

The only time when I have seen the need for intermediate firmware has been when beta testing this modem/router.
