Our switch ate it. Lost internet connection and went into the server room to smell burning plastic and the switch had died totally. Luckily we had a replacement but is there anyway to keep this from happening again or does it just happen every few years? Just want to make sure we dont make the same mistake if there was one. We have one modem connected to a firewall (fortigate 60) and then is connected to one switch which is connected to two others. There is a fan blowing in the room in the summer, but in the winter it gets so cold in there it isnt needed. I beleive we have had that switch for around 5 years. Any help appreciated
Re: Switch died
Looks like that switch has a lifetime warranty. I'd check into getting it replaced through netgear.
All electronics die. Some die earlier than others (as you've see) but the way it works is going to eventually kill it. For businesses like netgear with lifetime warranties, the hope is that by the time it dies, the product is obsolete.
