Using WIndows 2012 DHCP to offer IPs to GS748T3 VLANs
Hi guys
I am trying to setup a VLAN for my WAP's and they should be giving a different IP subnet to the rest of my network. I have a Fortigate 30E Firewall, and a Netgear GS748TV3 switch, and DHCP is enabled in my Windows 2012 Server. My normal network is 10.7.1.0/24. Can I set up my Wireless devices to receive IP's in the range of 10.7.2.0/24? I more or less understand how to set the VLAN's up on the switch; the part I need help with is how my Windows 2012 Server will know which IP'ranges to give to who. At the moment I only have one DHCP scope setup 10.7.1.0/24
Could someone please assist in setting DHCP for the new scope based on the VLAN settings in the switch?
Thanks
Kirk

Re: Using WIndows 2012 DHCP to offer IPs to GS748T3 VLANs
On the bigger Managed Switches there are L2/L3 DHCP Helpers or DHCP Relay available, with these configured a new DHCP scope would be sufficient.
Without a DHCP Relay, you have to bring up an interface of the Windows server to each VLAN.

Thanks very much. What do you have to do to achieve that? Do you need more than one DHCP server for each VLAN?

Re: Using WIndows 2012 DHCP to offer IPs to GS748T3 VLANs
Hi Kirkie748,
First, you need to create a DHCP scope for VLAN 4 in the Windows 2012 server.
Example. VLAN 4 - 192.168.4.1/24 (192.168.4.2-192.168.4.250)
Second, create a VLAN 4 in the switch GUI
Third, Tagged the uplink ports,
Example. Switch port 1 - Windows Server and Access Point- Tagged the ports to pass the VLAN4 traffic.
Four, Make sure you add the VLAN ID 4 to the Wireless profile.
Any wireless will receive an IP address to VLAN 4 network.
