netgear prosafe gs724tp and management vlan
i have a prosafe 24-port poe+ gigabit smart managed switch model fs724TP. i cannot seem to change the management vlan id from 1 to 100. i have created the vlan 100 and set all the ports to untagged for both vlan 1 and 100. went back and changed the ip address and the vlan id to 100. once i do this, i lose my connection into the switch. the smartcenter will see it, but i cannot gui back into it. is this model unable to change the default management vlan?
Re: netgear prosafe gs724tp and management vlan
You have two untagged VLANs, which really shouldn't work anyway. You'll need to remove VLAN1 from a port, make VLAN100 the untagged VLAN, and set the PVID to VLAN100 for that port. Then, when you change the management VLAN, plug into the VLAN100 port and continue changing settings.
Or the way I usually do it with a new switch is connect it to the upstream switch via a trunk port, and another to an access port with a single VLAN with DHCP. Then I configure all of the tagged VLANs on that uplink trunk, and when I create the interface and connect to it I have immediate connectivity on the new IP. After that, I unplug the existing port configure the rest of the switch as per usual. Note though that this can easily trip STP if you're not careful about your uplinks.
