Static IP address and subnet mask, which valkues?
Hi,
I am sure this is answered somwhere but I cannot seem to find the answer.
I understand that to use a wired connection between my pc and my Readynas Ultra 4 I need to set the IP of the NAS to static.
Right now the IP is 192.168.10.148
The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
And the Default gateway is 192.168.10.1
What are the correct values I should put in my NAS?
My PC now has the following values:
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.10.129
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.10.1
What are the correct values for my PC to make a wired connection work?
Should the the Wifi adapter be configured with a static IPaddress?
Should the Ethernet adapeter have static IPaddress?
Will my PC automatically choose the Ethernet connection when I connect the cable so that I will get the faser speed of a wired connection? If, not how do I force it to do that?

Re: Static IP address and subnet mask, which valkues?
It sounds like you want to set up a separate, dedicated connection between the NAS and the PC. Is the NAS going to be used only the PC? If not, it may be better to connect the NAS to the main network so that all devices can access it.
Assuming that you do want a dedicated connection, then you need to create a new subnet. You could use, for example, 192.168.9.x/255.255.255.0. Pick two addresses in this subnet and assign one to the NAS and the other the PC. Whenever you access the NAS's IP address, the PC will know to use the Ethernet interface.
