Re: Stora drive compatibility list

you might want to look here for a possible way of upgrading without copying the files back and forth.

http://www.makovec.net/upgrading-netgear-stora-nas-drives-without-copying-data/

as for the RAID, i think you select RAID 1
🙂

Re: Stora drive compatibility list

I also used http://www.makovec.net/upgrading-net...-copying-data/
With this info I went from a single 1tb to a single 2tb and although lengthy it worked well. I did for peace of mind take the 1 tb drive out and cloned it first as I wasn't happy with some of the posts of people saying they had lost data when inserting drives. My theory was that if they both have the same data then I should be ok.

Once cloned I put the 1 tb back in its original slot (1) then the new 2tb in slot 2, at this point the 2 tb was still at 1tb capacity. From this point I just followed the guide, failed the second drive via root access etc, rebuilt then grew the volume etc and viola I now have a single 2tb with no data loss at all.

Re: Stora drive compatibility list

Hmm, shouldn´t i be getting a "configure new hardware" popup or something when i insert a blank hdd? All i can see is "format" and after that´s done i get a blank page when trying to login to the web interface, i see the stora folders in windows though and i can start copying files back to the new hdd.

Re: Stora drive compatibility list

Maybe i´m in the wrong thread for this but now all seems ok, relevant to the thread though is the question, how much do you usually get out of a hdd? I see that my new 2tb WD red only gives me 1.8tb?! 200gb's missing, is that acceptable?!

Re: Stora drive compatibility list

It's the age old thing of how HDD manufactures measure the capacities of their drives. If they say that their drive is 2TB they're using 1000 gb = 1tb, where it should be 1024 gb = 1tb. Have a look here: http://www.ussscctv.com/harddrivesizecapacitiescalculator.aspx Your drive is fine as my 2tb drive shows as 1.8tb :)

Following SpudNut's instructions below, I've got my Stora working fine with 2x Seagate ST4000DM000 4Tb drives 🙂

Its a good question that no one seems to answer. All the other drives on the list are discontinued.

So for bumps sake is the WD20EZRZ compatible with this NAS??

Re: Stora drive compatibility list

Rsinj and/or Anybody who can help,

Based the listed compatiable hard drives listed below, I purchased (2) 2TB
HUA722020ALA330 hard drives. They arrived and I placed them in the Stora, did a hard reset of Stora, and then proceed though the setup wizard. When I get to the 'detect HD' step in the wizard, I am told there are no HD installed in the unit. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? I confirmed the model number on the HD. Do I need to initialize or format the drives someway before inserting into Stora?

Regards,
Argiejr

Re: Stora drive compatibility list

Recently purchased 2 x Western Digital Red NAS WD10EFRX to replace 2 old Western Digital Green drives, popped them in the Stora, configured with no issues.

Argie...sometimes the drives come pre-formatted.

Try connecting directly to your desktop and remove all partitions, then try again in the Stora.

Re: Stora drive compatibility list

ST3750640AS (7200.10) works.

ST3750630AS (7200.11) does not.

Re: Stora drive compatibility list

Hello,

And thanks a lot for all of your contributions :

I've just finished upgrading my NetGear Stora MS2110-100PES
from a 2x 1TB drives RAID1 to a 2x 2TB RAID1 with a pair
of 2TB Western Digital WD20EFRX NasWare 3.0 disks.

Here are the references of the procedures used and parts bought :

1) Using a computer running Windows 8.1, and Basilisk (supporting Flash)
as a Web browser, I first checked if I manage to connect via ssh to my NAS
with Putty, using one of the ''Administrators'' accounts, according to this tutorial :
''Easy Root Access''
https://github.com/Dees7/openstora/blob/master/pages/Easy_Root_Access.md
The login format was as announced :
USERNAME_hipserv2_netgear_XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
Web-Browser-Login-Account_hipserv2_netgear_Labelled-Product-Key

2) Using the tutorial :
''Upgrading NetGear Stora NAS drives Without Copying Data''
https://dan.makovec.net/useful-stuff/upgrading-netgear-stora-nas-drives-without-copying-data
I also checked if I actually manage to get ''root'', using some of the non-modifying
commands in this tutorial.

3) I then bought 3x 2TB Western Digital WD20EFRX NasWare 3.0
hard drives (+1 as a spare) on the eBay store of the seller called ''deoptimus''
based in Germany :
WD RED 2TB WD20EFRX NASware 3.0 NX HA500 5400U/min 64MB SATA III 3.5''
https://www.ebay.fr/itm/403737305766

4) Once the hard drives received, I externally set one of the new hard drives
in a similar position to the 1st hard drive I will have to replace in the NAS,
so as to start a 24 hours warm-up cycle.
I then replaced the 1st hard drive (on the right into the NAS), according to the tutorial :
''Upgrading NetGear Stora NAS drives Without Copying Data''
https://dan.makovec.net/useful-stuff/upgrading-netgear-stora-nas-drives-without-copying-data
I then carefully followed this same tutorial to upgrade the NAS, taking profit
of the 1st RAID1 rebuilding delay to start an over-the-night warm-up cycle
for the 2nd hard drive, set in a similar position to the 2nd hard drive (on the left) I will
have to replace.

Lead to success, these tutorials allowed me to double the capacity of my NAS :
Thanks again !
