Netgear A6210 - Lag spikes only when gaming

I use the A6210 as moving the router isn't an option. When watching youtube, normal browsing, there is no lag. However, when I play games, the ping constantly spikes - jumping from 60 to 400 multiple times in the span of minutes - making games unplayable. I've got it plugged into the right USB port so I'm wondering if there any other fixes, or if anybody else has had the same issue.

Wifi and gaming don't play nicely together.

An alternative is to try Powerline Ethernet which turns the mains circuit into an Ethernet network.
