New XS505M strange network reactions like paket losses
Hi there,
before I return the newly bought XS505M I wanted to check the community if I can do something like a hard reset or similar.
I used the Netgear switch now about 5 days, as an upgrade from another company 2.5 G switch.
Speedchecks on the web work fine bit I found out drops in online gaming so I researched deeper. I tried removing the Network in Windows 10 and install the actual drivers.
If I open cmd and ping to a website like google I can see drop outs. Also Websites react slow, downloads shrink from 99 Mbit/s to 5 Kbit or stop. A resume gives the full speed but not very long. In games I get connection losses.
After pulling the power cable, wait for 10 seconds and put it back it seems to be good for several minutes.
If i change back to the 2.5 G switch everything works smooth again.
I use: 1 PC with Asus 10G PCI Card
1 QNAP NAS with 10G Network Card
1 Fritzbox Router for 1G Internet
1 Google Chromecast with 100 mbit
Any advices? Are there any tools to check the switch for more informations why this could happen?

Re: New XS505M strange network reactions like paket losses
Start a test, run the similar ping from your QNAP NAS (from the NAS Linux shell) to the Internet .... if there should be a switch issue, you would see the similar ping failures. Also run this simple ping test from the QNAP NAS to the Windows 10 system. This should give you a better idea whee things are going bullocks.
Nothing to reset on the XS505M/XS508M switches, as nothing to configure, and not user loadable firmware.

Ok thank you, if i ping from WLAN Smartphone to my PC I get sometimes drop outs.
I will return the switch as it is not working as a set and forget for me, sadly.

Re: New XS505M strange network reactions like paket losses
Exclude your PC from the test - most likely the issue you experience isn't switch related .... as long as you check with that very same PC you don't know where the problem is. That's why I suggested NAS and Internet, or NAS to router.
Leaving alone broken hardware, I've rarely seen a switch causing a problem as you have documented here. Focus on cabling, 10G/MultiGig adapter/driver or misconfigured adapter. Abd again, if there is a problem with one device take that one out of the test....
In case this undefined Asus 10G adapter is one of these well known Aquantia devices (now owned by Marvell), head to https://www.marvell.com/support/downloads.html for the current Windows drivers (search based on the chip model, like AQN-107 for example. These adapters have a long list of history with issues as you describe....
