What's the secret sauce in connecting unmanaged to managed switches
A few months ago, I jumped on Amazon and bought a little DLink DGS-105 desktop 5-port switch. It would not work with our company network at all. I spoke to one of our network admins and she said that security settings prevented the little unmanaged switches from working. Today I found out that one of our employees was having luck with one. It turns out that he's using a little Netgear GS605v5 5-port switch... similar in size & form with the D-Link model. Our corp network equipment consists of Cisco 2960 and 3560 series managed switches. Can anyone enlighten me as to why they work with the netgear GS605 and don't work with the DLink DGS-105?

Hm, hard to say.
Best guess some of the Cisco are configured with access port and port security allowing just very few MAC addresses on one port.
