4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

I updated my 4200v1 from 6.6.1 to 6.7.4 with no problem except the Performance page shows fan 1-5, looks ok.

The temp thermometers show 4 cores and temp 1, 2, and 3.

Also the graph below for the system and cpu temp shows nothing no matter what I choose.

The temp in the graph shows Celsius 0.0 to 1.0 at the top.

The upgrade went with no problems so far.

I also upgraded two Pro6 from 3.5.2 to 6.6.1 to 6.7.4.

How do I fix the 4200v1?

Do I wait for the next update?NAS01-6.7.4.jpg

Thanks

Can you do what?  The solution I pointed to for the fan and CPU temperature issue is done via SSH after the unit is updated.

The updates have been coming so fast and furious that I've been hesitant to update to 6.7.4 on legacy equipment (which is all but one of my NASes).  I'm sure Netgear has not had time or resources to fully test each one on every legacy platform and there has been no beta testing.  I've only updated my Pro2 "sandbox" system.  I've seen no issues there, but there's a big difference between a 2-bay and 12-bay system.

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

Seems like this upgrade is impacting everyone in different ways. Mine isn't related, mine is a performance issue which render the NAS very slow even for reading and writing and my logs are clean. Lets hope they have a new update soon as it's impacting my functionality at home.

I wish they would do better testing before releasing an update. Seems the updates have been problematic for a lot of users.

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

I doubt any formal testing is done of the legacy ReadyNASes at all, other than what mdgm might do, since they're not even supported platforms for 6.x. Upgrading them to the latest 6.x is always going to be a crapshoot.

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

So if that's the case remove the legacy hardware from the update list because all it's doing is breaking perfectly good work hardware which leaves a bad taste for the NETGEAR product.

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

I thought 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 was just fine. Everything worked.

From 6.6.1 on, my networking to the web page is slow, through Windows network takes 5 or 6 tries to get to the folders.

6.5.2 was ok.

Does anyone know if there was a fix needed for the legacy hardware to be updated past 6.5.2?

Can you go back to 6.5.2 from 6.7.4?

I have two pro 6 and one 4200v1 on os 6.

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

6.7.2 worked perfectly. You can only go downgrade by preforming a factory reset and using a USB key with the firmware version you want. (I've had to do this twice since owning this NAS for four years) But doing this you'll loose all of your data on your hard drive.

I used to just load the image I wanted. Isn't that possible?

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

You only got 6.x on a 4200v1 by yourself or a prior owner installing an unsupported hack/modification from this forum...it's not supported by Netgear. They are still releasing 4.2 maintenance updates and just released one yesterday, actually. If you are using the 4200 in an environment where reliability and availability are important to business or other purposes, you shouldn't be running unsupported software.

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

You could possibly try downgrading to 6.7.2 but don't downgrade to 6.7.3

If you like you could send in your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig).

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

The updates have been coming fast and furoius to squash bugs, so I'm not surprised that something may have been left out for a legacy system and not found due to lack of beta testing.  Same thing happened with my RN4200V2 on 6.6.1.  I've not moved to 6.7.4 on it yet.

See ReadyNAS-4200V2-OS6-6-1-fan-control for a solution.

My reply of Can I do is a reply to MDGM on trying 6.7.2.

It was posted out of sync.

Sandshark's solution fixed the fan and temp and sensor problem.

I pressed the Accept solution on the wrong message.

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

Ok after I did this:

# cp /etc/frontview/sensors/RN4200.conf /etc/sensors.d/
# systemctl restart readynasd

My performance looks like this:

Performance4200v1.jpg

Nothing changes, everything stays the same.

The temps are close to my other NAS01, 4200v1 with os 4.2.30. NAS01 has fan speeds around 2900, cpu,  5200 system.

Are the fans really running at 10K rpm?

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

I don't know. My previous image showed them running at 10356, every one of them. I went into the server room and they are not any louder than the 4200 with os 4.2.30.

I would have to pull it out and take the cover off to see.

Is there any other way like a command through ssh?

I don't think you could trust linux/ssh, since the web ui is basically getting it's info that way.

Re: 4200v1 Update to 6.7.4

I tried to update it with 6.7.2 and the system reported uploaded file is not for this device.

MDGM suggested I try this.

Are you sure you got the X86 firmware (and didn't accidently download ARM)?
