Access Issue (Duo)

Hi,

I have a ReadyNAS Duo which I cannot access either through Windows (It's been mapped for over a year and has been working fine) or through FrontView (192.168.1.100 which also has been working fine).
However if I ping it all 4 packets come back fine.
I have tried turning it on and off again, and the same with the router and PC's (there are 4 on the network)
The green LED labeled act is flashing in quick succession.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Do you know if you have a duo v1 or a v2? The labeling is misleading, so use this guide: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/

Do you have a backup of the data?

Also, are you seeing a LED pattern on the duo that looks anything like this:
LED blink behavior for 2 disk systems is three quick blinks of all disk LEDs and the backup LED, followed by a 1 second delay, followed by a number of slow blinks. The number of slow blinks will be the error code.

Current error codes:
1 – Vendor mismatch
2 – No disks detected
3 – Bad contents on root partition of disks
4 – Flash error
5 – Unsupported RAID configuration

It's a Duo v1, the disks are running RAID 1, the only LED flashing is the one above act the two disk LED's are constantly on as is the blue power LED (although not a bright as usual)

So
(a) it remains active on the network because you can ping it
(b) RAIDar sees nothing
(c) No error pattern in the leds
(d) web ui not functioning
(e) SMB not functioning.

Do you have a backup? If not, perhaps try to pull the data off with linux reader next (http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/). You can only extract data from disk 1 (and of course you need to power down the NAS, and keep it powered down until you restore the disk).

Note that in v1's the disks are not formatted identically, only disk 1 has a data partition. disk 2 is the mirror, but there is no data partition that linux can see. RAID is done in hardware.

After you have the data, perhaps try an OS reinstall. The best guide is in the hardware manual: http://www.readynas.com/download/docume ... 6Dec11.pdf (page 16)

I do have a back-up but it's missing yesterdays data (which hopefully isn't a problem I'll connect drive 1 directly to a motherboard) It's interesting that disk 2 has no partition.
Once I'm happy all data has been retrieved I shall try re-installing the OS. I'm not particularly experienced with NAS will an OS reload effect data? or can I do it without the discs inserted?

The OS reinstall leaves data intact. admin password is reset to netgear1, and the network configuration is reset to use dhcp. Other settings are left alone.

Though of course there is always some risk, so it is good to get the data off first. Then you can do a full factory reset, and rebuild the nas/restore the data if needed.
