Advantages of ReadyNAS RND2000 over Synology DS212?
I'm pretty sure I'm going to invest in a ReadyNAS RND2000 (ps, is that the same thing as a ReadyNAS Duo?), but people keep telling me these Synology NAS units are very good too, and may be more reliable, connection-wise to windows 7, and perhaps easier to use all-round for a networking-noob. What does anyone think? I'm guessing as I'm asking this on a Netgear forum I know what the answers will be.. But I'm intrigued as to what you guys think anyway!

We'll see if this is allowed, but the Synology units are massively better than the entry-level Netgear units. This is especially true comparing with the older SPARC-based devices. RND2000-100 is v1 (sparc) and -200 is v2 (ARM). The v2 is much better than the v1, but the Synology software is simply superior to both. I'd take the 212 any day.
It's a little harder with DS212 vs Ultra2, then you have to decide between pure hardware power and build quality (Ultra, by far) or software features/slickness (DS, also by far).
