Back ReadyNAS to SAN
Ive got a new ReadyNAS 2100 set up and mostly configured but am having issues backing it up. My goal is to use my existing backup solution and just add the ReadyNAS as a new thing to back up. I'm currently using Arcserve (R15) and backing up everything to a disk array attached right to the Arcserve machine.
Ideally I'd like to be able to run the job with the my backup user credentials (and that sort of works) but then I can't get the private user shares. Is there a way to add the backup user as an admin on the ReadyNAS?
The way I've tried it in the meantime is with the ReadyNAS admin user credentials. The problem is that I keep having permission issues. When I set up the job in Arcserve I enter the ReadyNAS Admin user and password and can drill down to and see and select all the directories and files on the ReadyNAS. However, after I create the job and package it, when I run it I get permission denied trying to access the ReadyNAS. I've selected the entire C drive of the ReadyNAS (so I get all the private shares in home as well as the group shares I created).
I've only got CIFS enabled and am using AD security. There are no other add ons installed or running.
Any help would be appreciated, if you need more info let me know. Thanks in advance.
Dave

Re: Back ReadyNAS to SAN
As an update, I just ran a new backup job and selected the entire ReadyNas, not drilling down to the C drive. I again used the admin credentials and the job ran but I was denied access to the C drive, it was denied access to the admin private share and it was also denied access to about half of the group shares I've got set up. They are all set up the same way with the same permissions and everything but half of them it backed up and the others it got the permission denied error.
I just want to be able to back up the NAS in as easy a way possible. Had I known it was going to be this hard to set up I would not have gone this route. Any help or suggestions anyone can offer would be great!
thanks

Re: Back ReadyNAS to SAN
I've got an update to my update.....
I found and downloaded all the logs from the NAS and reviewed them. When I try to run the backups it is authenticating the admin user just fine, I can see that in the auth.log. However, in the smbd.log file I see the following line:
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [Admin] -> [Admin] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
And this is right after it validates the backup user, so it must be validating both against the domain, which is fine, since it implies I can simply use the backup operator login but my problem is that I can't figure out how to give the backup operator login rights to the user private shares. This is really frustrating and I can't believe it is this hard so I assume I'm missing something simple, otherwise I can't use this and will have to return it.
If anyone has any input that would be great.
Thanks!!
