Backup Routine renders FrontView and Data on NAS inaccessible.

Backup Routine renders FrontView and Data on NAS inaccessible.

I have recentely purchased a replacement Chassis for a client, installed the HDs from the failed drive (yes, I checked to be sure they were compatible) and am now attempting to configure the 'disaster recovery' backup to an external HD connected to the front USB port.  I have formatted the drive to NTFS and set permissions to Anonymous and set up a full back job.  This is the second time, I have attemped to backup the data and each time the data on the NAS is inaccessible to the end user and I am unable to access Frontview via a web browser.  The backup routine appears to "lock up" the device.  Thoughts please and thank you!

ReadyNAS 104

Version 6.4.1 - Firmware  - update check reports no update needed.

Backup failed.

The following was on the status window:  __percup_counter_add#20

USB device is not longer reportin under Volumes and cannot be accessed via start + run [nameofdevice]

Rebooted and device is now working with respect to accessing data and Frontview.

Which services and apps are you running?

What brand and model is the USB disk?

Re: Backup Routine renders FrontView and Data on NAS inaccessible.

No Apps running

Services as follows:  SMB, AFP, ReadyDLNA, UPnp, HTTP, HTTPS

External USB 3.0 Drive:  Fantom GFP3000EU3

The Backup drive was unplugged and reconnected and can now be seen in the Volume Listing.  The backup did begin but did not complete.  Some of the data was copied.

Hi Annamarie,

Can you extract the backup log file found in the UI? If you will connect your USB hard drive in your PC, is it working properly? You may also want to run disk error checking tool to scan for errors.

Kind regards,

Interestingly, I checked the logs and there were none regarding the backup routine(s).  I will check again.  The drive "appears" to work as expected on a Toshiba laptop as I removed it to reformat in NTFS.

Hi Annamarie,

Thanks for the feedback. Did you run the Disk error checking tool before or after formatting the said external USB storage in NTFS format?

No, just ran a "quick format".  Anyway, had the end user purchase a new drive (Western Digitial passport USB  2.0/3.0 compatible).  It has been connected (in a rear port, rather than the front) and a backup is currently running.  I still have access to the data on the RAID volume as well. Will update in the morning when the backup completes. The end user has a large amount of data and backups require a full day to complete.  Thank you!

Hi Annamarie,

I was about to suggest that to further isolate this issue that you've encountered. Anyways, just let us know if the backup is successful.

Re: Backup Routine renders FrontView and Data on NAS inaccessible.

On quick inspection (as I have a full time job in addition to a small business), backup "appears" to have completed successfully.  Unfortuantely, I did not get an alert email but will check those settings this evening.  I am not sure if the Fantom Drive is on its last legs as it was working successfully with the previous device.  Maybe just incompatible.  At this point, just happy to have a backup!  This case can be closed at this time. Thank you for keeping on an eye on this thread!  Have a great day.  Annamarie, ADL Computer Services, LLC (Sprinfield, VA).

Re: Backup Routine renders FrontView and Data on NAS inaccessible.

Hi Annamarie,

It's good to hear that the backup was successful. With regard to the email alert, just ensure it's configured and it'll surely let you know if the backup job was done or has some errors. Lastly, this thread can be tagged as closed or resolved if you will click the "Accept as Solution" button in one of the resposes that you received.

Kind regards,
