Backup optimization, renamed and moved files ?
Hi,
I have a major question about the Backup between two ReadyNAS over the WAN.
Can you tell me if Rsync use the detect rename fonction ?
Exemple renamed file in mirror mode:
If I have a file named A on site A and a backup of this file on site B
If I rename A -> AA, the NAS delete A and resend AA on site B ?
Or the NAS detect the modification A -> AA and it rename the file without send it over the WAN ?
Exemple moved file in mirror mode:
If I have a file named A in directory A on site A and a backup of this file on site B
If I move file A -> in directory B, the NAS delete file A in directory A and resend A in directory B on site B ?
Or The NAS detect the modification and do it on site B without send it over the WAN ?
It’s very important for me and if it work it will be perfect.
Thx for your help !

Re: Backup optimization, renamed and moved files ?
No, rsync doesn't work the way you are hoping it does. When it runs, it looks at the folders at they are at the moment, and cannot detect that files have been renamed.
So the renamed file is treated like a new one (with the old file name being seen as a deletion at the source).
