Basic Advice

Hi there, I am after some simple advise which I hope you guys can help with. I have tired reading some of the FAQ's or forum topics, but, if i am honest a lot of it is over my head.

Heres the situation...

I have a Ready Nas Duo, with 2 hdd drives in (both are the same make/model) ever since i got it (must be 2 years ago maybe?) i have been living with some annoyances that I can only assume is something wrong with my setup..

1. Alot of the time when accessing it (happens more when wirelessly) I cannot delete/rename or move files (says access is denied). I am logged on as admin. I could try again later and it may work, or never work.

2. WHen i copy things to the readynas, it often seems to not like me copying folders and files - comes up with the deivce no longer exists most of the time, or there was a problem accessing....i often have to create a new folder first on the nas, then copy files into that folder and although its the same file set it then works, this is of course pretty teadious when i have alot to do

3. I cant set more then 1 thing copying at a time...eg copy 1 film to the nas, then copy aload of music, usually both operations will come back saying the device is no longer accesable (or words to that affect). If i do file sets 1 at a time then there doesnt seem to be an issue - again very time consuming.

This weekend I got two new situations...

4. The NAS resynced itself, even though i shut it down cleanly, the only thing i have done which i dont usually do it unplugged the power (as i was moving things around). The resync took over night, which seemed like a while but i can live with - but in the meantime I couldnt do anything wwith the NAS, i assume this is normal?

5. since the resync I have had troubles connecting to the NAS, i can browse in windows explorer see my files and folders, but (for example) when i start to watch a film, it may play for a while, say 2minutes, then stop, and the nas is no longer visible. I can go back into windows explorer and see that the folder view is empty. Refreshing wil either bring the files back, or come back saying it is not accessible. This NEVER happend before the resync.

I checked by logging into the user front end and see

MAC address xxxxx claims to have our IP address (xxxxx) (duplicate IP conflict likely)

looking at the time stamps i can see this has only started to occur after the resync so perhaps this explained 5 above (it never occured before then so cant attribute for 1,2 or 3), . I tried switching everything off (including router) and starting up again, and I still get that error in the log eventually.

I can live with 1-3 (as i have been for the last couple of years!) though if any one has any insite on why i get that behaviour I would appriciate it.

number 5 i cannot live with though as it stopping using my ReadyNAS for its primary purpose. Can anybody offer me any suggestions on where to start looking for the problem. Whilst i am not complelty new to computers, I am certainly no expert, so any advice on where to start troubleshooting this would be greatly appriciated.

Try unplugging the ethernet cable for several seconds, and then plug it back in. If that doesn't work, try looking at your various devices and see if you can find the one with the offending MAC address.
