Cannot connect to internet - RN10400
Hello Community!
Hope you are doing good!
I have a RN10400 with 4 WD 3TB Reds - Raid 5.
The NAS is connected to my desktop PC (Windows 8.1) motherboard port via an Eithernet cable.
My PC is connected to the Internet via a WIFI USB Stick.
I can access the NAS via https://169.254.xxx.xx/admin/. And through file Explorer via //Storage
For interent, I have a Surfboard SB6141 moden, Ubiquiti Edge RouterX, and Unifi AP AC Lite.
I have OpenDNS setup in the Edge RouterX.
Udner Network Connections, the Eithernet adapter IPV4 settings are "Obtain an IP address Automatically" and "Obtain an DNS address Automatically".
I don't think my NAS connected to the internet becuase it won't reconginze the new Updates or send SPTM emails (gmail). Is there a way to test if my NAS can see the internet?
What setting do I need to change so it can connect to the interenet for updates?
One more note:
Under Netgear Admin Page >> Network >> Links eth0 (green) >> Settings >> IPv4... I set it to Static with address of 169.254.xxx.xx (same IP I access NAS with), Router of 173.xx.xxx.x (public IP), and added the OpenDNS server settings. At this point I really don't know what I'm doing and would like to learn.
Can someone please guide me?
I really appreciate it!
Thank you!

Re: Cannot connect to internet - RN10400
Hello netuser24,
The NAS should be connected to a network where there is a router. It needs to get an IP address from the network. Currently, you are just hardwired straight to the NAS and this NAS won't receive an Internet connection as the 169.254.x.x IP address is just an APIPA.
To make it short, you have set it up incorrectly. You can use the NAS this way and access it locally with the APIPA address but do not expect it to get on the Internet as it is not connected to any Internet source.
I suggest you put the network settings of the NAS back to Dynamic or DHCP and connect it to the router. Then run RAIDar to check the status of the NAS. NAS and computer should be connected to the same network.
Maybe this article will help: What is the local admin page and how do I access it on my ReadyNAS OS 6 storage system?
Welcome to the community!
