Convert ReadyNAS Duo v2 to JBOD

Hi,

I've got this old ReadyNAS Duo v2 with two 1TB harddisks which is running X-RAID.

My system has changed and I don't need RAID anymore.

Question :

Is there any way, to convert the X-Raid option to JBOD, which would be a lot more convenient for me....????

Hello LodyJ,

If you have important files stored, back up these files because you will have to factory reset.

See article How do I change my Duo v2 or NV+ v2 from X-RAID2 to Flex-RAID?, this will explain what RAID levels available in OS5 NAS which is the OS of your ReadyNAS Do v2.

After factory reset, reinstallation and selecting the RAID level are the next steps. JBOD is available in FlexRAID.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions and my excuses for late reply...

I tried out your suggestion in many different ways, but no success...

I checked in at NetGear support.

It appeared, that, although the label said it was a v2 unit, I have a version1.

So... things changed completely...

Anyway your suggestion started me on the right route to salvation.... 🙂

Well, not really.  The basic situation is unchanged.  With either unit you need to back up your data and do a factory reset to switch to jbod.

Download the 4.3.8 RAIDar (PC version is here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ReadyNAS/RAIDar_Win_4_3_8.exe)

Then back up the data, and document the configuration of the NAS (including any add-ons).

Remove one disk from the duo, then initiate the factory reset procedure.  You can do this from the web ui (click system, then update, then click on the factory default tab).  Or you can do that using the procedure in the hardware manual (page 15-16): http://www.readynas.com/download/documentation/HM/Duov1_NV%2Bv1_HW_en_06Dec11.pdf

Using the web ui is easier.

Once you begin you have a short window to get the Duo to use flexraid.(~page 19 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RND2110/RAIDiator4-1_SW_en_06Dec11.pdf).  You do this by launching RAIDar, and choosing setup.  The select flexraid / raid-0.

The NAS will complete the factory install.   Then hot-insert the second disk, and create the second jbod volume.

Then complete the NAS configuration, set up the shares, and restore the data from backup.

The procedure I mentioned in my previous message didn't quite work out.

- I did manage a manual factory reset

- I did get de "settings-dialog" in my RAIDar window.

- I did set it to Flexraid0

- But in the end, the unit still ran RAID1 on two disks.... so... no result.

Your procedure looks good, but.....

The link http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ReadyNAS/RAIDar_Win_4_3_8.exe) returns a "404-not found".

Have been looking around, but couldn't find it.... but..... I already installed RAIDar 6.0 for windows...

Do you think version 6.0 will do the same trick..???

Well, if you got it into flexraid, then the RAIDar you are using is ok.

I am thinking you left both disks in the duo.  I said to remove one.

Try again I guess.

If it is in Flex-RAID you should be able to go to Volumes, delete the existing volume and then create the ones you want.

If it is still in X-RAID and it doesn't work using RAIDar 6.0 when you try again, then you will need to try RAIDar 4.3.8

The URL you tried for 4.3.8 has a ")" (no quotes) at the end that shouldn't be in it. If you remove the ")" you should find the URL works.

I hadn't seen the "one disc" condition and....
...I didn't spot that parentheses at the end of the URL...

Well... that's old age (67) I presume..

There are some issues with RAIDar 6 and the older legacy NAS.
