Critical problem with my Readynas Pro 6: NAS is suddenly unaccessible !

Hello,

for several I've not changed my configuration and not updated any extension. Each day the Pro 6 is shutting down during the night and is waking up at the morning.

But this morning, after my wife has been using Plex, the shares on the NAS were unaccessible, first as mounted drives in windows, whereas the network shares were working, and then after a reboot nothing was accessible (in CIFS). When I was logging on frontview, there was no log !, but everything seems to be ok excepted this problem. Now nothing is working !

The Pro 6 is configured with port aggregation, the 2 ports are up, but are not pingable ! They are plugged on a GS108T. Everything was restarted and no luck.

I've searched in the forum, but didn't find this kind of problem. It really strange because, it happens whereas nothing was changed in the configuration !

I'll contact Netgear, but most of the time I find better support in this forum, so could someone bring me some advices ?

Thanks in advance

Did you see some occasional disconnects before everything locked up?

Sometimes this happens when the OS partition gets full.  Do you have ssh enabled?

I've asked to my wife and she didn't notice any problem the day it happened (neither me). For SSH I don't know, I'm at work for now.
Do you think an OS reinstall could resolve the problem or will it be worst ? How can the system partition be full without any warning ?! During my daily backups with a readynas 102 I've huge log files created by rsync, could it be the source of the problem ?

Thanks for answering me.

No, I don't.

Possibly.  One option is to delete all logs (w/o downloading them first).

Or wait for netgear support.  If it is a full OS partition, they can easily fix that.

OK so today the NAS has been fully functional, without changing anything ! Yesterday, the RN102 was unplugged so the backup between the 2 NAS was impossible, so maybe it solved the problem to have just a tiny backup log. Without zipping the rsync logfile, I remember this file is bigger than 600MB...

Can you tell me what can I do in order to avoid this problem again please ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi marcusp,

Could you send us a copy of your device logs so we can check if the OS partition is full due to large size of backup logs?

Kind regards,

OK I've searched in daemon.log, spool_error.log & system.log, and each time I read "no space left on device". So what can I do to solve this problem ? It can't even finish a backup now...

How do you want me to send you these 3 files ? dropbox ?

Hi marcusp,

Kindly send the full system device log file of your PRO6 unit. Also, tell us which type of NIC bonding you used on the said device.

Kind regards,

That's not the logs zip file, but just a few of the logs from it.

@BrianL2 I've sent the logs. And for the bonding, I'm using IEEE 802.3ad with LACP (level 3+4).

@mdgm-ntgr Of course I know the logs are partial, but I thought Brian only wanted these 3 files...

You have SSH enabled, so can you login and check the output of the following?:

# df -h

# df -i

Re: Critical problem with my Readynas Pro 6: NAS is suddenly unaccessible !

Hello,

here are the results:

ReadyNAS-Pro-6:~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/md0 4.0G 2.2G 1.6G 58% /
tmpfs 16K 0 16K 0% /USB
/dev/c/c 6.4T 4.2T 2.0T 68% /c

ReadyNAS-Pro-6:~# df -i
Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on
/dev/md0 65536 11473 54063 18% /
tmpfs 1022723 1 1022722 1% /USB
/dev/c/c 106373120 3475357 102897763 4% /c

and I've noticed something strange too, my Readynas 102 was unaccessible too ! I couldn't even ping it... When I plugged the ethernet port, I didn't have any LED blinking on the switch.

So I had to do an OS reinstall ! I didn't notice it before, because it's running only 2h during the night and I kept receiving the mails it sent.

04-03: the backup was still operating, but the 04-04: I began to receive mails telling me there was an error during backup, so I think the RN102 was down since this day. At first I thought it was only the Readynas Pro fault, but tonight I noticed Istat extension didn't work on the RN102...

That's crazy my 2 NAS have crashed in 24h !

Hello,

does anybody have a clue about the crash of my Readynas Pro 6 ? Will it happen again ?
