Deleting Snapshots - ReadyNAS102

Hi Everyone,

I noticed that i was running out of disk space on my ReadyNAS, and when i checked i found that Snapshots were taking up over 2TB.

I went into the settings for that folder, and noticed this.

data.JPG

So even though the folder thinks there's over 2TB of Snapshot data, the number of snapshots is zero.  If i look at the timeline i also don't see any Snapshots.  Also, if i navigate to the snapshots folder it's empty.

These are the settings...

(Note : I changed the snapshot schedule to Never in the hope i could reclaim the space. It was set to weekly before that).

So my question is : Where is this data hiding, and how can i delete it to reclaim the space?

Cheers,

Andy

Re: Deleting Snapshots - ReadyNAS102

Your snapshots were not upgraded when you updated to 6.2.4 back in July last year.

As a result they are not showing up in the UI.

I have sent you a PM.

Re: Deleting Snapshots - ReadyNAS102

Since you are not comfortable with providing remote access you have a few options.

1. If you are comfortable with SSH you could do:

# touch /.force_snapshots_upgrade
# systemctl restart readynasd

This should upgrade the snapshots which would then allow you to delete them

or 2. You could backup your data, do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything) and restore your data from backup. Considering your system was setup on 6.0.0 (the very first firmware release) I think this would be a good idea. We have added some filesystem improvements which are not required, but still nice to have that can only be obtained by creating a new filesystem.

Note the issue that you have run into is a one-off upgrade issue that you ran into when updating to 6.2.4. You won't run into this problem again.

Re: Deleting Snapshots - ReadyNAS102

Hi Erwin,

I 'solved' it by copying all the files to another location, and doing a factory reset on the drive.

Then set everything up again, and copy the files back.

cheers,

Re: Deleting Snapshots - ReadyNAS102

In your case the problem was different erldumlao. It seems that deleting one of your snapshots might have failed for some unknown reason.

Re: Deleting Snapshots - ReadyNAS102

erldumlao, please run a balance on your volume and then once that has completed run a defrag.

I would suggest scheduling a defrag and balance to run weekly (at different times). You should schedule these to run at times when the NAS is being used lightly.
