Differential rather than incremental backups

I use the Frontview backup software to backup an NVX to a USB connected external disk.
So far I have been doing full backups every time. I would now like to institute a policy of mainly running differential backups. As far as I can see this is not possible; only full and incremental options seem to be available.

a) Am I correct?
b) If so, is there a (cheap) third party solution I could adopt?

Regards
Geoff

Note: currently running RAIDiator 4.2.21.

Re: Differential rather than incremental backups

Differential backups (backing up all data since the last full backup) presumes that each backup is stored separately. That is not what Frontview does. Even the incremental backups (using rsync) update the full backup folder, they are not stored separately. So Frontview cannot do that.

There are tools that do what you want for Linux, but I believe they would all require ssh access, and could be tricky to install. If you backed up over the network, then there are PC backup utilities that would do what you want. If you have a gigabit network, then backing up over the network would probably be faster than directly connecting a USB drive.
