Direct copy to USB using EXT3 from Windows
I am backing up directly to the USB drive connected to the Readynas duo through the share available in Network neighbourhood. The inbuilt NAS backup software is not appropriate unfortunately because it does not have an acceptable level of alerts (success & failure alerts)
We are using syncback to do the backup from a Windows 2003 to the USB share on the network.
We originally formatted in NTFS and found that performance was around 2.5mb when copying to it.
I have now formatted the drive as EXT3 & we are now getting around 5mb when copying.
My question is will the information copied to the EXT3 partition on the USB drive be in a usable state if we ever need to rely on it?
Is it as easy as copying the information off of the USB disk using this utility http://www.fs-driver.org/faq.html and copying it off of the USB drive to wherever it is needed?

Re: Direct copy to USB using EXT3 from Windows
Which model Readynas do you have? Which version of RAIDIATOR is installed?
Yes you can read the EXT3 USB disk on your PC using the fs-driver.org utility or one of the several others on the market. The few times I've needed to do it I've used this tool successfully.
