Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available - ntfs ?!?
Hi everyone,
i am currently running in an issue with my duo. I was running a single 1Tb drive, and switched to a single 2Tb drive. I installed the latest raidiator software 4.1.12 successfully, i can access the device from the http console, BUT the disk shows 0% space available out of 0Mb.
I searched through the forums and someone said to do a disk check, which i did. Nothing changed.
The disk is a SAMSUNG HD204UI , and is known to work on this device. I dont really know what to do ... it is a fresh install, i activated DLNA and NFS, nothing more i believe. i can see the /backup and /media folders from my computer, but cant access them.
I guess i am missing something but cant see what. Please, help ? Thanks !

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
Are the shared folders set to allow "everyone" read/write access?

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
Have you activated smb or cifs on the duo?
It doesn't sound like the disk has been added properly, however the fact that you can see shares suggests that there is a volume.
Have you tried rebooting, or if here is no data on the drive, doing a factory default?

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
I just checked and the default access is set to read/write for nfs and cifs. I have no users defined yet, except admin.
I also turned off the apple talk protocol, no apple products at home.
I have CIFS activated yes, and NFS. I tried to reboot. The install is fresh (like 40 mins fresh)

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
I don't think he added a drive. It sounds like he pulled the single existing drive and installed a different one.
If so, of course there would be no data. It should be possible to access the two shares using NAS admin credentials - though they would be empty.

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
So i just tried to add a user, and it failed.
message is "Pas de système de fichiers disponible pour le partage. [tayst]"
which is translated to "no available filesystem for the share.[tayst]" .
Looks like the duo does not like 2Tb drives ?
Edit: yes i pulled the previous 1Tb drive and switched to a new 2Tb one and upgraded to new raidiator right after.
Edit 2 : i launched a new raidiator install. If it does not work i will try a factory reset.
Any other idea ? I could try to enable ssh and check "from the inside" maybe.

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
The duo should be fine with 2 tb drives (I have two installed in mine).
Maybe pull the drive, delete the partitions and try again?
Though maybe check the disk health (SMART stats) and the volume status first.

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
I have seen reports of the duo V1 working with this drive, so it should be ok. I checked SMART too before tinkering around, nothing special there, no errors. I have no idea so i will just do it again.
If it still fail, i will ssh into it and df - fdisk to see.

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
I realise OP replaced rather than added drive, just didn't appear to have registered any volume available "0% of 0mb available"
Can I ask OP:why are you using a single drive and do you have a backup of the data that is kept on this drive?
I have exactly that drive in a sparc unit and it works perfectly, so unless the drive is faulty it's not going to be the drive type or size.

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
I have another NAS that backs up this one should it go down, which i find way more effective than a raid setup. I dont need the high availability of a raid array (besides i dont consider raid mirroring as really usable. If i had to build a raid array, that would be raid 5 which the duo cant do)
I also have another 2Tb USB drive as an offline backup.
There is currently no data on this drive (except raidiator install i suppose).
The nas has just finished installing raidiator software again. I can see in raidar software that i have a yellow light on volume status, while i have a green light on drive status.

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
Oh wow. It got even worse. It looks like it does not even show the interface now. Factory reset, is that it ?
edit: i am going to check the drive on another computer.
edit: restarted and i have the same as before,0 out of 0.
i have this in the journal entry:
The paths for the shares listed below could not be found. Typically, this occurs when the ReadyNAS is unable to access the data volume. media backup
I am going to go ssh / fdisk.

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available
Ok so fdisk tells me i have a partition type 7 on that drive. which is NTFS. I guess this is the heart of my problem ... can i just destroy that partition ? and do the install cycle again, or is this perfectly normal ?
This is a second hand hdd, sorry i forgot to mention that ...
how can it use 865Mb out of 1.8T and use 1% of the disk ? How is it even able to write on an NTFS partition ? I should not be able to even list the device ... Fstab says ext3 drive though. I really dont understand what is happening here.

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available - ntfs
Just delete all the partitions and put it back in. If the drive is ok, it should work. While the drive is out , is there a drive test utility for those samsung drives. This may work ,

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available - ntfs
Yes, i am going to do that. I tried adding the boot flag and changing the partition id to a linux one, and surprisingly it booted. I'll just delete that partition and try again.
Still i am surprised raidiator did not delete that partition when it installed.
If it still does not work i will try the software you linked. I will report my findings anyway. Thanks everyone 😄
edit: so, first report. Raidar reports "corrupt root" and i got a blue led, meaning it must be formatting it. I hope it does.

Are you sure it's formatting. Usually that message means you need to factory default.

It should have finished by now, and it has not.
Here goes factory default ... i need to find a needle or something.
edit: needle found, formatting.

Ok, it works now.
I really think we should get an option to format the drive without going for a concealed switch ... or at least get a clear warning /indication when a new disk is detected.
Thanks everyone, problem solved.

Re: Duo V1, new install with new hdd - 0Mb available - ntfs
There has been an improvement in this area with the new models (RN102, RN104, RN312 etc.). As for the legacy models such as the Duo I would expect handling of new hard drives would remain how it is at the moment.
