FLAC rips

There seems to be a plethora of programs to convert WAV files to FLAC. Are any better than others? My intent is to stream my files over Sonos. So far I've looked at Total Recorder and Media Monkey. Using Total Recorder, I noticed there is a compression setting 1 thru 10, defaulting to 5. I'm starting to read up, but was wondering if anyone had a quick reference on the topic.

Thanks.

Re: FLAC rips

You should definately check out this:
http://blowfish.be/eac/Setup/setup1.html

Exact Audio Copy is freeware (read donateware) and works flawlessly. DbPoweramp is an alternative but you will have to purchase a license for it.
Use the accuraterip addon for EAC to make sure your rips are 100% accurate.

The compression setting does what it says, I go with maximun compression - it takes a little bit of extra time while converting but it does not bother meat all.

I have 400+ purchased original CDs perfectly ripped with EAC and I play them through my ReadyNAS 4 on Squezzebox/Xbox etc. Works like charm!

Good luck!
