Firmware upgrade - Poor write Speed

I have just installed RAIDiator 4.1.13 [1.00a043].

My write speed has dropped dramatically from around 15MBs to less than 4MBs (20MBs copying from the NAS).

When I drop data into folders, there is a momentary pause, then Windows 7 indicates a ramp up in speed.

I have jumbo frames enabled, access to (view) folders (78% of 1.8TB full), is fairly quick.

I have re-installed firmware, to no improvement. Any suggestions?

What's the speed with jumbo frames off?
Are your disks ok - smart data?
Do you have any addons running?

Re: Firmware upgrade - Poor write Speed

Switched jumbo frames off, write speed now 16MBs!!!

(No add-ons and discs are fine)

Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you know why jumbo frames have made it worse? (Windows 7 set to 9KB MTU)

The discs installed are WD Green 2TB (3 years old), will changing to faster discs bring about any improvement in speeds?

Re: Firmware upgrade - Poor write Speed

How is the NAS connected to the windows 7 PC? It's probably an issue with the device(s) between that are not jumbo frame capable.

Wired 1GB network , via the Virgin Media Superhub

(Edit: write speed is actually 19MBs)

Re: Firmware upgrade - Poor write Speed

I don't think that supports jumbo frames.
What you need to do is buy a jumbo frame able switch and place it between the PC and the NAS.
Just use the superhub as your gateway only.

Re: Firmware upgrade - Poor write Speed

For the benefit of other users:

I have installed a TP-Link TL-SG1005D 5-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Desktop Switch.

Set "Jumbo Frames" on again and I have a 20% increase in data rates.

24MBs write
