Frontview corrupted :(

Hi,

It's a long story, but I'll just basically state where I am now. My Frontview v4.1.13 interface looks like this:

Everything is working, ie: shares etc, but I only got this far after forcing an OS re-install from holding the reset button in for 5 seconds after pressing the power button. I think the interface loaded ok once, but never again.

I luckily had installed SSH plugin ages ago, so I have SSH access to the box via Putty, but my Linux knowledge unfortunately isn't quite up there with my Windows Server and network infrastructure knowledge 😞

Could anyone give me some guidelines as to how to get this sorted please, and if you are going to throw Linux commands at me, please go easy. I can copy/paste ok 🙂 but I have no knowledge apart from basic ls rm rmdir etc

MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE,
Sharpey,

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

Have you cleared the browser cache and reloaded the Frontview page?

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

Hi there, thanks for the quick reply. Yes I've tried that, tried in-private browsing, and in fact, tried 3 different browsers. I think the issue is a little deeper than this I'm afraid 😞

Certainly hope so, as I don't really relish the prospect of copying 600+GB of stuff onto another drive/factory resetting it (which might not even work)/copying it all back.

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

600 gb isn't that much.
In case you don't find a solution, or the solution is to factory default, why don't you start copying it?
You should really have a backup anyway.

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

Here's the dilemma: (and sorry for not detailing the configuration, on the opening question), I have a 2x2TB drive raid, so to copy all the data I'd have to factory reset the box, and mount one drive in Linux Reader and copy it back.
But I'm not sure the FR will work, so I'd father fix it... whilst learning something along the way.

As requested via PM, please follow this link for my logs. It does show missing files for the UI....

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

My advice to copy the data was based on your initial post where you said the shares were working. I assumed you meant you could access the shares over the network?

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

Your OS partition is full. Probably due to a large log file.

NAS:~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdc1 1.9G 2.0G 13M 100% /

You can check e.g. using

# du -csh /var/*
# du -csh /var/log/*
# du -csh /var/log/frontview/*
# du -csh /var/log/frontview/backup/*

You may wish to copy the offending log file to somewhere on your data volume then do e.g.

# echo "" > /var/log/frontview/error.log

If /var/log/frontview/error.log is the huge log file.

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

I pulled one drive out to make sure I could read it on my PC via Linux reader. This drive is still in my PC. As far as I'm concerned, my data isn't at risk as I can also access the same data on the nas from the other drive. I ideally need to fix the UI, rather than having to factory reset it (which may not even work).

Sorry, I'm a complete noob in Linux, so I've just blindly followed the commands and here is the output. If you need me to delete the log etc, can you list the specific commands please? Sorry....people like me must seem alien to supergeeks 🙂

Here is the problem log.

Try

# cp /var/log/upnp-av.log /c/upnp-av.log
# echo "" > /c/upnp-av.log
# touch /.os_update

Then reboot the NAS.

I love this place! 😎

It's copying that large file now.....NAS is clicking away. I shall report back when I can, as I need to get to work. Thanks you SO MUCH for the help guys, especially 'mdgm'. If this sorts it, which I have a good feeling it will, I'd like to buy you a beer via PayPal, if that's ok?

Even still, praise where praise is due. People are always too quick to complain and never to say thanks. The NAS is booting now....... *drum roll please*

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

Thanks.

Hopefully it comes up fine now.

Your ReadyDLNA log had grown huge.

Did you install the Toggle Debug add-on for ReadyDLNA? If so your logs would have got quite verbose. Debug logs should only be enabled for as long as necessary.

I'm now walking to work, but I did see Frontview load properly before I left.
Thanks a million! [emoji41]

A quick sub-question: I presume it will resync without issue if I put my other dive back in now? I'm asking as I understand the now working OS, is located on the current installed disk.

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

And no I'd not enabled any verbose logging, and I'd only used the dnla feature a few times in total, streaming some music on the phone.

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

If you add a disk while the NAS is on it will be wiped and a resync will take place. Assuming the disks are fine this should work fine.

However if you don't have an up to date backup I would suggest that you backup your data first.

I was intending to shut the nas down, and insert the disk, power back on.

So this will just treat the disk as blank, regardless of the content?

I agree, I should get the lot backed up onto a new drive anyway, just in case.

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

I would add the disk while the NAS is on to make sure it is wiped and added to the array. It will wipe it as it is out of sync with the other disk.

Or if you must add it back while the NAS is off, connect the disk to a PC and delete the partitions off it first. If it is the parity disk then perhaps format it and then delete the partitions off it.

If you cold add it it may not wipe the disk and instead fail to boot as the disks are out of sync.

Thanks for the info on this.

How would I know if it's the parity disk or not? I removed the left disk of the two. And from what I can see, both drives have ALL the data on, or is this not actually the case?

Re: Frontview corrupted :(

Both disks do have all the data on them except if you were using X-RAID one of them doesn't have the partition table on it as X-RAID uses a dedicated parity disk. Newer models use distributed parity amongst all the disks.
