HDD's full, Upgrade HDD's, Another ReadyNas or diff NAS?

I have the ReadyNas Duo v2 with 2x2T raid.
They are nearly full so thinking what's the best thing to do next.

1) Buy a larger HDD's, I believe the limit is 3TB so this may be expensive for a small upgrade
2) Buy another ReadyNas Duo with 2 x 2TB
3) Buy another Netgear Nas with 2 x 2TB (or more)
4) Buy another companies Nas for a change.


I use mine on my home network (which I am rebuilding in new house) for Movie, Music and Photos.
My ideal solution is to have:
Music serving iTunes and linking to Airplay and/or Sonos (depending on what I buy)
Movies available over DLNA to 2 x TV's in the house (will be connected via ethernet cables) and also to any laptop and any tablet (Playbook and maybe an iPad).

I would probably split my files, movies 1 NAS and music photos other nas.

The Nas (or Nas's) would sit in a box under the stairs and not be played with apart from via a web interface.
The ability for timer on/off would be nice to save electricity when not in use.

So, what do you think? (p.s. in the Uk, if that sways decision on price etc.)

Are you sure you have a duo V2? If you purchased in January 2011 (your join date) you must have a V1. In which case option 1) is not available. The easiest way to confirm it so look at the firmware you are running. V2 products all run 5.x.x. firmware. If you are running 4.1.x then you have a V1 (no matter what your label might lead you to believe).

If you are comfortable with setting up your current NAS, then I would suggest option (3). If you actually have a v1, I'd pick an Ultra 4 or a Pro 4, but only begin with 2 disks, leaving two open slots for easy expansion. The Pro is a better choice with DLNA, since its faster CPU allows you to do transcoding with plex.

Check your version.

If (as I expect) you have a V1 running 4.1.x firmware, then the V2 will be very different.

If you're happy with ReadyNAS, then I'd recommend another ReadyNAS. Save your investment in the UI. Ensure things like RSYNC work between boxes. Nothing worse than debugging a multivendor problem.

If he purchased his current ReadyNAS when he joined the forum, then he certainly has a V1. "Saving the investment in the UI" therefore suggests an ultra or pro - the V2 dashboard is completely different.
