How to Expand A ReadyNAS NV+ (40003) That has 4 x RAID 1 Hard Drives

Hi All,

Please could you assist, I currently have a ReadyNAS NV+ (40003) That has 4 x RAID 1 Hard Drives (all of them were 500GB).

The NAS has RAIDiator 4.1.16 [1.00a043]

It only has one volume C: and I was running out of space with only 6MB of space left.

When I went into Volume Settings I can see all 4 disks (500GB) RAID Level 1, Status Redundant, 463GB Allocated,

Disk space 459GB of 459GB used

I replaced each hard drive (one by one hotswapping) with a new 2TB hard drive.

At each stage I waited till the RAID had re-synced before changing the next hard drive (until I had 4 x 2TB hard drives).

I then did a reboot to hopefully expand the RAID.

Unfortunately after the reboot when I go into Volume Settings I can see all 4 disks (1863GB) RAID Level 1, Status Redundant, 463GB Allocated

Disk space 459GB of 459GB used

There is no change in regards to Volume C:, please could you advise how I can expand the volume to use the new hard drives space.

Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you are using XRAID.

Enable Journaling on Frontview->System->Performance

Disable disk spindown on Frontview->System->Power

Then go into  Frontview > System > Shutdown and set "Check and Fix Quotas on next boot".

Reboot (and hopefully expansion will begin).

Has anyone determined if the ForceExpansion add-on is still compatible with the latest 4.1.x OS version?   http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/4.00/ForceExpansion_1.0.bin

I don't think it would hurt to try, it just might not work

I think you'll need to

  1. back up the data
  2. do a factory default with all disks in place
  3. set up the NAS again
  4. restore the data from the backup.
