Hello all
I currently have a ReadyNas 214 with one 5TB HDD.
Due to health issues i have not been able to add more HDD to the system, until now.
I am now planning on replacing the current WD 5TB Red HDD with a WD Red 10TB HDD and adding 3 more so i will have 30TB of total storage space available.
Could someone please clarify the procedure to achieve this.
Thanks in advance
Kevin

There are two ways:
Method 1:
- Create or update your backup.
- Power down the NAS and remove the 5 TB drive.
- Insert the four 10 TB disks into the NAS, and do a factory default.
- Reconfigure the NAS, install any apps
- restore your data from backup.
Method 2:
- Create or update your backup
- Hot-insert the first 10 TB disk into slot 2
- Wait for resync to complete (vol size will be 5 TB)
- Hot-swap the 5 TB drive with the 2nd 10 TB drive and wait for resync to complete (vol size will be 10 TB)
- Hot-insert the third 10 TB disk and wait for resync to complete (vol size will be 20 TB)
- Hot-insert the fourth 10 TB disk and wait for resync to complete (vol size will be 30 TB)
Method 1 is faster, but your data will be off-line for a while. Method 2 is much slower, but will the data will remain available. The NAS won't be as fast during the resyncs though.
Don't neglect the backup step - the volume is unprotected during a resync, and if a disk fails you often will lose all your data.
