Indexing of shared storage, Windows 10 Pro or alternatives
I need to facilitate content searches. Can the contents of ReadyNAS shared storage be indexed for PCs, Windows 10 Pro, which have access to the shared storage? What is the second best strategy?
Without the ability to index the materials, shared storage loses a large element of function.
Thanks!

Re: Indexing of shared storage, Windows 10 Pro or alternatives
Windows won't index a network share unless you make it "always available" - and that keeps a shadow copy of the files on the PC - not practical for my NAS, since it has a lot more capacity than any of my PCs.
What you could do is convert your NAS to OS 6, which has a file-search capability that you can access via the admin web ui. Unfortunately it isn't available any other way. The conversion to OS 6 is destructive - you need to back up all your data, convert to OS-6, and set up the NAS from scratch.
