Inserted new HDD but not detected

I had 4 drives in a RAID 5 configuration. I want to upgrade to four 2TB drives from four 1TB drives. I did hot-swap on drive but nothing happens. No resyncing or anything. It just tells me that it is not redundant and 1 more hdd failure and I will lose the volume.

Re: Inserted new HDD but not detected

Did you test the drive?  I suggest doing that in a Windows PC with vendor tools (Seatools for Seagate drives; Lifeguard for Western Digital).  You can connect the drives to the PC either with SATA or a USB adapter/dock.

Re: Inserted new HDD but not detected

I think the issue was that the drives are Serial Attached SCSI and not regular SATA ???

Must not be compatable...

Re: Inserted new HDD but not detected

Correct.  Only a few ReadyNAS support SAS drives, and they are all rackmount models.
