Issue with Unicode (non-English) folder and file names (ReadyNAS 214, Firmware v6.9.0)
I have a ReadyNAS 214 with 4 drives installed. It's running Firmware v6.9.0, and I'm using it in a macOS environment. The shares are setup as SMB3.
I recently discovered that there appears to be an issue with Unicode (international) characters in file/folder names. One of my shares has 70+ folders, but less than half of them were showing up on my SMB clients. I spent a good amount of time fiddling with permissions, etc., before I noticed that the folders that weren't showing up on the clients were the ones following (and including) a particular folder with an accented character in its name. I renamed that folder to get rid of the accented character, then all folders were properly displayed.
The User's Guide simply says "ReadyNAS OS 6 supports unicode." Then it goes on to say "We recommend selecting a language based on the region in which you use the ReadyNAS." So apparently the issue is not that I had a Unicode character in the folder name, but that the character didn't match the language I have selected in the system configuration. This is an absolutely ridiculous limitation - just because I speak English doesn't mean I don't have files with names using other languages. This MUST be fixed, and I will file it as a bug report with Netgear support. I just wanted to share this in case anyone else ran into this problem (I can't imagine that nobody has!)
