The ReadyNAS 3200, 4200, and 4200V2 as well as the ReadyData 5200 are all SuperMicro units with specialized firmware. Standard SuperMicro caddies are what you need, and they are available from several sources on eBay. The ones I got were part number MCP-220-00075-0B, but I think MCP-220-00024-0B and MCP-220-00001-01 will work, too. And if you will have any empty bays, you should fill those with caddies that have the plastic filler installed to maintain proper air flow. A lot of sellers don't list the part number, so I've attached a picture. The big thing is the smallish locking handle on the lower front. The plastic filler only uses two screws, so you'll need more. Those are avaialble on eBay, too, and on Amazon. Make sure you get ones for 3.5" drives.
If you need to use 2.5" drives, you'll need adapters or a different part number.
Prices are all over the map, but you can usually make a deal for a large quantity. I got a box of 36 for around $50 plus shipping.

Re: Looking for 12x HDD tray for ReadyNAS 4200 or ReadyData 5200
As for the 5200 the trays came with drive packs. As of ReadyDATA OS 1.4.4 you can now use unsigned drives. See https://kb.netgear.com/31086/ReadyDATA-OS-1-4-4-Using-unsigned-drives

Please, read my question one more time. I was not asking what new unit is coming with, or if new firmware allows me to use non-signed drives.
I have ReadyData 5200 after decommission, but corpo geniuses utilized drives with trays.

Re: Looking for 12x HDD tray for ReadyNAS 4200 or ReadyData 5200
They aren't generally for sale (Netgear used to sell trays as accessories years ago, but no longer does).
I think the part number you are looking for is RN12PTRAY-100WWS. Most places I checked are out of stock. http://www.abcconf.com/Store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=45469 is one possible source.

I think the 5200 uses the same drive tray as the 4200. Seeing you'll be buying the Super Micro part for your 5200 anyway (see info from link in my post above) you could easily check if the tray fits your 4200 v2 as well.

@Sandshark: Do you know of any caddies that also fit the legacy or OS 6 desktop ReadyNAS?

Re: Looking for 12x HDD tray for ReadyNAS 4200 or ReadyData 5200
No, I know of no standard caddies for other models. They are very similar to the Chenbro RM21400-04, but a mirror image. I think Infrant (the basic design dates to before the Netgear acquisition) may have had Chenbro manufacture them but intentionally made them incompatible. The new rack-mount units look a lot like a different Chenbro model, but I've only ever seen pictures of either.
