Maintain share permissions during backup to external hard drive
I have created a job that backs up my shares to an external hard drive plugged into the front panel usb port. But after a successful backup I can now see the new backup share on the external hard drive (and all of its contents) and it is accessible (and browsable) by all users on the network that goto \\mynas regardless of their user permissions!
Is there a way to maintian the current folder/share permissions when a share is backed up to an external hard drive?

Re: Maintain share permissions during backup to external hard drive
Typical flaw of older (and some current!) NAS systems: The USB connected storage devices - especially the one on the front - was often aimed for simple data access, import, and - more critical - export, and backup.
Unless I'm wrong, even the current ReadyNAS OS 6 does suffer from the same issue.

EXT3 and EXT4 should be able to inherit the file permission, could you please format your USB storage and test again?
