Move Drives From RN2120 to RN3138

We have an RN2120 with four 8 TB disks. This unit has been a bit flaky for a few months, and this week has started to fail regularly. I do not think the disks are faulty as the problem followed the chassis even after a complete drive replacement before it was re-deployed to it's current role (secondary backup at our DR site).

We have an RN3138 on site that has smaller disks (four by 4 TB) and is scheduled to be pulled and put into spares. Both are on 6.10.2.

Is it feasible to move the four 8 TB disks from the 2120 to the 3138 without data loss? I did a search, and those replies indicated that it *should* work, but some of the dates I noticed were on the older side (2015-ish). So I wanted to make sure that this is still a viable option.

Thank you.

Re: Move Drives From RN2120 to RN3138

Hi Jmeyer00,

Yes, it is possible to move the 4x8TB disks from the RN2120 to the RN3138 without data loss since both systems are running on OS6. If you have any apps installed on the RN2120, those apps might not work when you move the disks to the RN3138 because you are migrating from an ARM-based unit to an Intel-based unit. You should at least uninstall the apps first then just install the x86 version of the app after the migration.

It will also be best if you do a full backup before the migration just to be safe.

You may also check this article for reference on OS6 to OS6 disk migration.
