NV+ version2 - won't let us access
Hi all
We've been using our NV= happily for 2 years. However, today I've hit a problem. Oyr NV+ is suddenly kicking us off the NAS.
It is used in an office and 4 Macs access it through the local network. We use it as a file storage area and never have a problem in the two years since we installed it.
I have 2 x 1TB discs. There are four shares, one of which is used predominantly for graphics files and they are large files.
If it go into RAIDar it tells me that I still have 26% free, However, I suspect that the biggest share hosting the graphics files is full.
1. Is there any way of telling how much space is used on each of the shares and is that a likely scenario?
2. if the above point is true then I probably need to buy expansion discs...is it a simple task to insert them and carry on or will I need to back everything up and re-install? (actually I can probably find help on that one in the relevant section!)
Thanks so much. Would appreciate your help.
Debbie

What FW version are you using? Do you get error messages on the logs?

There is no option to check how much space is used on each of the share. However, you could check the capacity of the volume on the Home page on Frontview or on the Volume Settings page on Frontview.

Is your NAS set on XRAID? If yes, then you could just simply add new compatible drives one-at-a-time and it should automatically proceed with the resync process.
It would be smart that you always have a backup of all the data stored in your NAS.
Regarding your concern that its seems "its kicking you off," did you receive any e-mail notification that a drive/s is failing?
is your NAS really a NV+ v2? Kindly read this link: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/

Re: NV+ version2 - won't let us access
Hi there
Looks like FW was automatically updated to RAIDiator-arm-5.3.8
And no, no error messages on the logs or on screen when it kicks us off!
And no, no drives appear to be failing...certainly no messages telling me this.

I suggest you to perform OS reinstall on your NV+ v2: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... /related/1

Re: NV+ version2 - won't let us access
Will the reinstall need me to back up the data first?
You're right - duty of care says that my data should be backed up. However, in the short term my problem is that I need to purchase a backup drive big enough - which takes a couple of days and we need to use the NAS today.

An OS Re-install does not touch your data. It leaves it intact.
A factory default on the other hand wipes all the discs. A factory default wipes all data, settings, everything.

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

Re: NV+ version2 - won't let us access
thanks for your help so far. Alas, it has not solved the problems.
I've performed the OS reinstall from the boot menu
I've added additional expansion disc
I can access three out of the four shares - write to the shares and take files off, just not the share that holds most of our graphics files (although I can see all the files there in Finder before it kicks me off and closes the find window)
Is there anyway I can plug straight into the NAS and take the data off with my laptop (it's a Macbook pro) and pull off some of the files in order to create a bit of space in the troubled share?

Re: NV+ version2 - won't let us access
maybe try backing it up with dashboard backup to a USB drive (NTFS formatted, connect it to the NAS)

Re: NV+ version2 - won't let us access - MAC issue?
The mystery continues
It transpires that I can access the NAS through a PC machine attached to the network. I can read files and write to the share which is causing the problem.
But all the Mac's on the system are kicked off on the share we need to access.
I'm really unwilling to reformat the NAS because it is working. It just seems to be an issue with the MACs on the network seeing one share. Has anyone heard of this happening before. I'd be really grateful for any help anyone can give.
