Have you tested the disk(s)?

Re: Net Gear 3100 nas
What is the history of the NAS? Was it working with other drives installed before you put in the new ones, or did you recently acquire this with no drives?
What type of drives did you istall? I believe the backplane of the 3100 will accept SAS drives but the controller cannot utilize them.

Re: Net Gear 3100 nas
You are getting a lot more than that. The IP address is the fall-over address (192.168.168.168) and the model and firmware fields are empty. But this is a RAIDiator 4.2.x system, and you really should be using RAIDar 4.3.8 to set up the NAS, not whichever version that is you are using. I'm not sure how the later RAIDar acts prior to volume creation on a 4.2.x based NAS, as I no longer have any active.
Since you are starting over, you may want to take this opportunity to convert your NAS to OS6.

Actually the instructions aren't there, just the download links. The steps are:
(Optionally) make sure the latest BIOS is installed before you do the conversion. To do this you install http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/x86/4.2/BIOS_Update_Package_0.5-x86.bin as an add-on and reboot the NAS. Do this after you backup the NAS. This isn't necessary, but if you want to update the bios it is easiest to do it prior to converion
Basic instructions for the conversion itself are
- BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP
- Upload PREPR4TOR6_0.1-x86.bin as an add-on using the ReadyNAS web gui, but do not reboot afterwards (avoids the need to do manual factory resets)
- Upload R4toR6_6.9.5.bin using the ReadyNAS web gui firmware update
- After you upload the addon+firmware and reboot, it will update the firmware and start a factory default.
- Go through the setup process on the converted NAS
- Update the NAS to the current OS 6 (check for updates will work).
- Restore files from the backup.
Netgear won't provide paid support on a converted NAS. There is a small risk that the process could fail, and if that were to happen it might not be possible to get the NAS running again.

Re: Net Gear 3100 nas
The BIOS package does not apply to the 3100, nor is any update of the BIOS needed for it.
On a 3100 (and also the 3200, 4200v1 & v2, and RD5200), another good plan before doing this is to make an image file from the internal USB flash so it can be restored, just in case the process fails.
