Well Netgear is back off my list as well (in only a few hours). Some update they've pushed does not work so well for me. I should qualify my comments before: for consumers, yes you get what you bought there and then. For business customers, you are buying into a long term solution.

Just like the iPhone3GS can't do things the 4S/5 can.
But the 3GS had firmware updates for long after its normal lifetime, with the exception of a few services not available (Siri, Folders, etc). You can still put iOS 6.1 on your 3GS from 2009, but you can't put ROS 6.0 on your Pro 6 from 2012 😉

Moreover, on the NAS market, Synology just dropped update support for the 2008 models. DSM 4.2 is available for all NASes since 2009... (and i'm sure it's possible to install it on earlier models)

Comparing the cartoon drawing with the rest, it looks like a 2x2.5" with SD card slot.

ReadyNAS Folio:

USPTO also has this trademark on file: http://www.trademarkia.com/folio-85796299.html

Why NetGear make products do not want. Do want Ready OS for NVX. Do no want ReadyNAS Folio.

url no work on this forum

Interestingly, the "folio" product is still on the ReadyCloud site, with no announcements so far this year on it. But the trademark status is now ABANDONED. Product not meant to be? ReadyCloud trademark is also dead.

Re: New Readynas models (rn312,rn314,rn516)

Wow, I guess my Ultra4+ has been working so well that I haven't checked in here much recently. Now when I do I find out the NAS I purchased last year is now "legacy". When I upgraded from my (real legacy) NV to the Ultra4+ I thought I was going to be relatively current, so imagine my  .

While I don't begrudge Netgear evolving the product line, some of the other messages in this thread seem to indicate that Netgear has abandoned support for anything but the new models. Can someone point me to that statement? I would hope that there will be RAIDiator updates for bug fixes & maybe the occasional minor new feature even for a while at least.

Again I understand Netgear evolving the product line, but this still bums me out. 🙂

There are bug fix updates still being produced. There is 4.2.25 RC1: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=70385

Though not supported you can run the new OS on your Ultra 4+: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=70323

Re: New Readynas models (rn312,rn314,rn516)

Thanks! I looked through the "Announcements" thread for some kind of...announcement...concerning the new models & support posture for the older models, but i didn't find anything. So the two links above are very helpful for me.

There are some beta testers of this product out there, only took 13 months 😉
Apparently the Folio name didn't get final approval (trademark expire).
According to MacManiak's forum signature, this model is now called the ReadyNAS RN25.
