New backup job - remote Windows/NAS - Discover - No SMB Server found - RN316

RN316 f/w 6.9.3

I just tried to add a new backup job.

Using the remote tab, either on source or destination, cannot discover SMB devices.

Clicking 'Discover' shows 'browsing servers' briefly, then 'no SMB servers found'.

If I enter a host name clicking 'Browse' does show a share list, so SMB is working.

If I enter a share name, 'Test connecton' works.

I then:

rebooted the NAS.

disabled/enabled SMB. (Legacy Windows Discovery ticked, MacOS un-ticked)

rebooted NAS again.

I can access the NAS via SMB from Windows.

Other Linux & Windows boxes & RN316 showup in Windows 'Network', so SMB browsing works.

Anyone have any ideas why discovery is not working?

Hi @micheal_Oz

Have you set DNS on your NIC settings?

SMB Discover currently works with MacOS, Linux and NAS Platforms as indicated.

Hope this helps!

Regards

Yes.

I have a Linux PVR, and a NV+, neither show up.

Is the above meant to imply that Windows SMB/CIFS devices are not supported?

Windows SMB devices are supported, but discovery can be a bit hit-or-miss.  Personally I use DHCP address reservation in my routers, and just use the IP address in the backup jobs.  That works well.
