New files/folders not inherting permissions

Hi all,

How do I get newly created file/folders to inherit permissions from the parent ReadyNas share?

We have several shares on the ReadyNAS to which access is restricted via Groups on the ReadyNAS.
The General group has read/write access to General share and Accounts group has read/write access to the Accounts share and so on for other shares.
Some users have access to all shares and others don't, controlled via Group membership.
All users primary group is "Users".

The problem is when a user creates a file or folder within a ReadyNas share via Windows mapped network drive the permissions are not inherited from the share.
If user1 creates a file within the General share then user1 is the owner with full rights to "this object" and user1's primary group being "users (Unix Group\users)" has the same permission as user1.

The General share on ReadyNas properties CIFS tab settings:
Default Access: Disabled
Write-enabled users: administrator
Write-enabled groups: General
Advanced CIFS Permission: Automatically set permissions on new files and folders.
When new files are created over CIFS:
Group rights: Read/Write
Everyone rights: Read/Write
When new folders are created over CIFS
Group rights: Read/Write
Everyone rights: Read/Write

Model: ReadyNAS Pro 2 [X-RAID2]
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.2.22

Security Mode: User
CIFS: Enabled

Thanks.

Sounds like you should make use of the ability to set ACLs using Windows.

Similar to http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12261/~/setting-up-active-directory-folder-permissions... except using ReadyNAS users and groups not Domain users and groups.
