No permission to access

Hi

Im the habby owner of a ReadyNas Ultra2.....
Especially after I reinstalled my computer and I want to enter some sub-folders on my NAS
I get the message that I do not have access.

Where/How can I change this?
I am administrator on the computer.

Re: No permission to access

To open the file permission for NEW files, follow the steps below:

Configuring Advance CIFS Permissions:
1. Go to Share listings
2. Click Cifs icon of the specific share name
3. Scroll down and put a check on "Automatically set permissions on new files and folders" under Advance CIFS Permissions.

To open the file permission for EXSISTING files, follow the steps below:

Configuring Advance Options:
1. Go to Share listings
2. Click Cifs icon of the specific share name
3. Go to Advance Options tab
4. Share folder owner: (type the share name)
5. Share folder group: (nogroup)
6. Put a check on "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings" and click Apply.

P.S.
After you put a click on the Apply button the check will disappear inside the check box, it's normal because it's an action box.

Re: No permission to access

I tried your 2 soloutions, but I cant make it work...

Everything is set like you describe in soloution 1.
When Im trying soloution 2 I dont know what to enter as "sharename" ??
Everyting what Im trying is not allowed...

Im not used to network, but I really really think that this setup is to complicated for normal people.

Right now I have musicfolders on my NAS that Im not able to gain access to,
and I have no permission to my own music 😞

Are you talking about the "share owner" field? The sharename is the name of the shared folder, not sure what you are confused about.

Though I just enter "nobody" for the share owner, that works just as well.

Did you follow the full instructions?
-nobody as owner
-nogroup as group
-read/write access rights for owner, group, everyone
-check the "set ownership..." box
THEN click "apply"

Also, is the folder you have having problems with the built-in "media" share?

Re: No permission to access

There is two directorys on the NAS as default.

I created subfolders under "media"

media/movies
media/music
media/pictures
etc..

Re: No permission to access

Try renaming the media file to media-1, and then follow the instructions above. Then rename it back to media.

Re: No permission to access

If you continue to experience issues, try disabling, then re-enabling the CIFS under services > standard file protocols.

Re: No permission to access

What version of Windows are you using?
Are you using the NAS admin login, or a different login?
Did you try setting your login/password for the NAS in the Windows Credential Manager?

Re: No permission to access

And sometimes I can rename a folder, and sometimes I can't.
After some minutes I CAN rename the folder ??!

The same folder that I was denied access to a minute ago ?!

Credentials manager is in the Windows control panel. You can make an entry there for the NAS which can include the user name and password that you want to use when accessing the NAS from that PC.

If your normal PC log on is also "admin" you will get prompted the user name/password on the first access to the NAS after a reboot (even if remember me is set). At least that happens on Vista. I know of no workaround for that.

Windows may also keep a file open for a bit after you are done with it - that could explain why you get some intermittent glitches that go away after a few seconds.
