Nylon screws for ReadyNAS Duo
Hi there.
Like many others,I am unable to find a source for the Duo's low profile hard drive mounting screws.
Has anyone tried nylon countersunk screws with a shaved-down head? Perhaps this could work.. haven't tried it, myself, but these screws are plentiful and cheap on eBay.

Re: Nylon screws for ReadyNAS Duo
The screws are found taped to a drive tray or in the packaging the NAS came in in a zip-lock bag.
If you can't find the screws then give NetGear support (http://www.readynas.com/support) a call. They can send you replacement screws for a small fee.
Four screws are used with each drive tray but you can use 2 or 3 screws per tray as a temporary fix till your replacement screws arrive.

You don't strictly HAVE to use the countersunk screws -- you can use flat-headed screws (probably not normal computer screws, though) if you are a little careful when inserting the tray.
Any computer shop worth its salt should have some countersunk screws, as they are used in most every tray used for all RAID systems. They might be larger though, the Readynas ones have quite small heads. But it doesn't matter.

Re: Nylon screws for ReadyNAS Duo
Hi there.
I've picked up several screws, local and online: None are quite low-profile enough.
I found some 6-32 "undercut" countersunk screws that work in a Dell NAS tray, but not the ReadyNAS... even this teeny-weeny (fingers pinched really close together) head height is too much. The head on these screws has got to be nearly nothing.. this is certainly a specialty item.
I'll see if the NetGear folks can help me out.

Re: Nylon screws for ReadyNAS Duo
Another dead end.
I bought these two older ReadyNAS Duos on eBay, second hand (that's why I don't have the screws).
NetGear support won't sell me the screws without registering the product, which I can't do since they were already registered by the first owner(s).
*sigh*

Could you send a proof of purchase, the serial number, and your mailing address to attachment@netgear.com. Put in the subject screws and readysecure1985. I will have someone watch for it and get this cleared up for you. The Proof of purchase can be a screen shot of the ebay purchase.

That's patently absurd. Why won't they sell spares for their equipment? It's just silly.
I was under the impression that all desktop devices more or less share the same tray? I have had success with flat-headed screws, and these are of a type I have seen lots and lots of times. You can see them in action here (unrelated article):
http://www.magnuswedberg.com/index.php?doc=2_5_inch_disks_in_a_Netgear_Readynas
Image number four. This works perfectly in both slots, even if you CAN make them snag on something when inserting the tray if you really try.
Can you post an image of your setup? If possible, also check where the screws bump into something 🙂
Edit: readysecure1985, on the other hand, shows a good example of good support. 😉

readysecure1985,
I sent images of the serial number and proof of purchase, but the message came back as undeliverable. Is attachment@netgear.com the correct email address?
Thanks,
--b

Re: Nylon screws for ReadyNAS Duo / *RESOLVED*
Well.
Major kudos for the excellent and fast support from readysecure1985 and the NetGear support group.
Thanks to the discussion in this thread, and the amazingly fast assistance from readysecure1985 I am now in possession of the proper screws for my ReadyNAS Duo units 😉
Certainly a testament to the quality of NetGear support.
