For those who are asking themselves if they can switch from 4.2.x to 6.0.x (advantages/which features are already working etc..) you can have a look there :

Re: OS6 now works on x86 Legacy WARNING: NO NTGR SUPPORT!

The "corrupt root" error mentioned in that article would also be obtained if you put used disks in older ReadyNAS models. From what Skywalker said above it sounds like ReadyNAS OS is even more cautious about wiping used disks than older OSes were. Which is not a bad change as many users have put a disk full of data in a ReadyNAS while it was running only to find the disk was wiped automatically.

I believe a change is coming in the next release to make it clear that if you boot up the NAS with used disks installed that these need to be wiped by doing a factory default.

As mentioned in that review some missing features from 4.2.x are coming.

If you didn't clear your 4th disk before re-inserting it, it won't be destroyed automatically. You can go to the volumes page; switch to flex-raid mode (uncheck the X-RAID button); destroy any old volumes; then re-check the X-RAID button.

It worked but I now realised I only have 3.49TB available (using 4 2TB drives). So one disk does not seme to be used, 5.58GB should be available. Winder if this is a bug in os6 or related to the use of older hardware.

Did you recheck the X-RAID option? If not, recheck it.

Also, have you tried rebooting the NAS?

A second Nas is an excellent backup solution. Yes backup can be expensive. Loss of data is potentially much more expensive. It's just like insurance.

OS6 Version 6.0.6 to 6.0.8 Fail on Ultra 4

Hi Everybody,

Did I miss some advice/instructions on how to go about the OS6 Version 6.0.6 to 6.0.8 update on the ReadyNAS Ultra 4? I accepted the update from the GUI when I logged in this morning, and now I'm hung up at "Booting. . ." with the power light flashing at me. It's been like that for about 3 hours now and it doesn't look like it is going to recover on its own. I've already held in the power button once to force a reboot but the results are the same. Fortunately I do not have any critical data on the drives so I could do a factory reset if necessary, but before I try that I thought I'd ask the experts about the preferred method of recovering from this on OS6.

Have you any advice for me?

Thanks in advance!

Re: OS6 now works on x86 Legacy WARNING: NO NTGR SUPPORT!

You could see if an OS Re-install fixes the problem.

If that doesn't it's possible your OS partition may be full or that something went wrong during the update.

Did you have any add-ons installed?

There is now a volume read-only boot option that has replaced the skip volume check boot option from earlier OSes. See http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu

You may be able to recover your data using the volume read-only boot option.

Dear mdgm,

Thanks for your reply!

1.) What would cause the OS Partition to become full? I have no idea what the status of the OS Partition was prior to attempting the update. I do know that the Data Partition was a tad less than 33%. . .
2.) NO. No Add-ons whatsoever. Matter of fact, I was planning to remove the Plex and Photo's Apps as soon as I figured out exactly how to do that 😄
3.) I will look into the "volume read-only boot option" you mentioned above
4.) Would you please post a link (if there is one) for the OS Re-install procedures appropriate for my particular situation?
Edit: Please disregard #4 above. I just performed the OS-Reinstall from the boot menu. Unfortunately, it did not help 😞

Any other suggestions? Is an OS reinstall from USB an option, or should I just go with the factory reset and cut my losses?

Thank you VERY much (in advance)!

Re: OS6 now works on x86 Legacy WARNING: NO NTGR SUPPORT!

1. It is a 4GB partition. It can be filled by an add-on not working properly or something like that.

USB Boot Recovery would probably be quite pointless.

Did you try the Volume Read-Only boot option?
